The Department of Esoteric and Thaumaturgical Research is divided into specialized directorates. Each directorate operates in strict compartmentalization, holding a unique mandate within the wider mission of the Department. This page serves as a reference index of all primary directorates.
The Directorate of Regulatory Affairs oversees compliance with internal law, classification standards, and ethical protocols. It acts as the Department’s legislative and judicial backbone, providing interpretation of policy and resolving jurisdictional disputes. All personnel not bound to a directorate must report to DRA for administrative and legal matters.
DISC safeguards the Department against espionage, infiltration, and leaks. It monitors both personnel and facilities to prevent breaches of information and ensures that classified material remains contained. Its authority extends across all divisions, making it one of the most critical directorates in terms of oversight.
TARP is tasked with the exploration and exploitation of thaumaturgical phenomena. It serves as the research and development arm for anomalous integration, testing experimental applications and producing field-capable technology. TARP is directly tied to units such as Cherubim and Nephilim, where theoretical research is translated into operational capability.
DRND manages conventional scientific and technological research unrelated to thaumaturgy. It develops containment solutions, instrumentation, and infrastructure necessary for Department operations. The Hazardous Materials Division (HMD) functions within DRND, handling the most dangerous and sensitive experiments.
DFSS provides armed security, surveillance, and rapid-response capability for all Department facilities. It functions with a military chain of command and maintains specialized branches such as Special Response Teams (SRTs) and Combat Medics in collaboration with DHHS. Its mandate is the physical protection of personnel, assets, and anomalies.
DHHS oversees all medical services within the Department. It manages both personnel health and experimental procedures involving human biology. Joint operations with DFSS provide medical support in hostile environments and field deployment scenarios.
DFLE maintains and operates the physical infrastructure of Department facilities. It is responsible for construction, logistics, supply chains, and maintenance of black sites. Without DFLE, the Department’s complex containment architecture could not function.
DFO coordinates and oversees all missions beyond Department facilities. It manages reconnaissance, retrieval, and engagement operations involving anomalous phenomena. DFO ensures that the Department maintains reach beyond its walls, projecting control into contested environments.
The Office of Theological Affairs operates separately from the Directorate system, yet holds influence across the Department. It maintains direct ties with the Vatican and provides theological expertise in matters where faith and anomalous phenomena intersect. OTA personnel are not bound by the conventional chain of command, but answer directly to DIRCOM.
